Estimator (Commercial Landscape Construction)

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive, and profitable cost estimates for commercial landscape construction and enhancement projects. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and site conditions to determine labor, material, and equipment costs while supporting overall project success.

In addition, the Estimator may assist with landscape design development to support sales efforts, bid submissions, and client presentations. This position plays a key role in pre-construction planning and collaborates closely with internal teams to ensure a smooth project transition to operations.

Compensation

• Salary: $55,000 – $60,000 per year
• Additional compensation and benefits may be discussed during the interview process

Key Responsibilities

Estimate Preparation

• Analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to develop accurate cost estimates
• Perform quantity take-offs and compile data for bid proposals
• Prepare detailed estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs
• Solicit and review quotes from vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing
• Ensure all project scope elements are accounted for with no gaps

Landscape Design Support

• Develop conceptual or detailed landscape designs as needed for bidding and sales
• Create planting plans, layouts, and hardscape concepts
• Ensure designs align with project budgets and feasibility
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to refine designs
• Adjust designs for value engineering when necessary
• Ensure designs are practical and executable in the field

Project Costing & Proposal Development

• Calculate total project costs based on labor, materials, and timelines
• Utilize estimating software to generate proposals and reports
• Maintain updated pricing databases for materials, labor, and subcontractors

Cost Control & Margin Management

• Support achievement of target profit margins
• Identify cost risks prior to bid submission
• Participate in job cost reviews and continuous improvement efforts
• Incorporate travel and logistical costs into project estimates when applicable

Pre-Construction Coordination

• Conduct project handoff meetings with operations teams
• Review estimates, assumptions, and vendor quotes
• Provide detailed budget breakdowns and documentation
• Identify potential risks and long-lead items

Qualifications

• Experience in estimating for commercial landscape construction or similar industries
• Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, and take-offs
• Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of materials, labor, and equipment costing
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities
